MI FA MALE and HO MAL DI
When it comes to pain, there are basically two very similar expressions:
| Ho mal di la testa | I have a headache |
| Mi fa male la testa | My head hurts |
The expression mal di expresses a certain kind of pain, like mal di testa headache or mal di gola sore throat.
With the expression mi fa male (or plural mi fanno male) you express that something hurts you: Mi fa male la testa my head hurts, mi fanno male le gambe my legs hurt.
