Environment and recycling

Recycling and environmental protection are important!

We have only one planet and our resources are limited. However, in order to ensure that future generations can also lead a life worth living, we also take care to avoid the creation of waste as far as possible and to recycle accumulated waste cleanly and separately. Paper and cardboard, plastics and glass, there is a suitable garbage can for these in almost every household. But what about electrical appliances and batteries?

Today, many devices contain countless recyclable materials that can be used to create something new again. Just as often, old devices also contain spent batteries and rechargeable batteries, which sometimes contain toxic pollutants and must not simply be disposed of with household waste.

The battery and the electrical law

Nowadays, batteries last for a long time, but at some point the life span is exceeded and it must be disposed of. The symbol of the crossed-out trash can makes it clear that a product contains substances that must not be disposed of in household trash under any circumstances. Batteries and accumulators containing harmful substances are marked by chemical symbols (Cd for cadmium, Hg for mercury, Pb for lead).

Used batteries and discarded electrical appliances should sensibly not be disposed of in household waste. Consumers are required by law to bring batteries to a suitable collection point, i.e. in stores wherever batteries are also sold or at municipal recycling or recycling centers. In addition, the batteries, rechargeable batteries and illuminants should be separated from the device, as far as this is possible without destruction.

Please also make sure that your personal data on electrical devices and data carriers are completely deleted before disposal.

The most important at a glance:

  • Used batteries and electrical appliances contain valuable raw materials that can be recycled
  • The crossed-out trash can means: Batteries, rechargeable batteries and electrical appliances must not be disposed of in household trash.
  • The symbols under the trash cans represent the following hazardous materials:
    • Pb: Battery contains lead
    • Cd: Battery contains cadmium
    • Hg: Battery contains mercury

How can I dispose of electrical appliances and batteries responsibly?

  • Use the collection and recycling points of the public waste management authorities (e.g. municipal recycling centers).
