__________
1 la freccia arrow
2 uccidere fare morire
Freya, the goddess of love, had two sons, Balder, good and generous, and Loki, evil and envious. Loki wanted to kill his brother, and when Freya found out about it, she asked all the animals and plants to protect Balder. Unfortunately, she forgot to ask the mistletoe plant, and so Loki used that very plant to make the arrow with which he killed his brother.
When the goddess Freya saw her dead son, she began to cry in despair, and her tears magically turned into white berries. When they touched Balder’s body, he came back to life. Out of sheer joy, the goddess Freya kissed all the people who passed under the mistletoe.
This is how the tradition of kissing under the mistletoe at Christmas was born: It is a symbol of eternal love!
