Difference between HO CONOSCIUTO and CONOSCEVO

The verb conoscere has different meanings in passato prossimo and imperfetto. What is the difference between ho conosciuto and conoscevo?

Ho conosciuto and conoscevo

Conoscere means to know a person or a place, something you have experienced. However ho conosciuto in Passato Prossimo means I met, I got to know. This is how it looks:

Conoscevo Imperfetto I knew
Ho conosciuto Passato Prossimo I met, got to know

Not so difficult, right? Here are a few examples:

Prima Laura non conoscevo nessuno, adesso ha molti amici qui. Previously Laura didn’t know anyone, now she has many friends here.
Non lo conoscevo, ma so che era un brav’uomo. I did not know him, but I know he was a good man.
Non ho ancora conosciuto la tua fidanzata. I haven’t met your girlfriend yet.
Ci siamo conosciuti all’università molti anni fa. We met in college many years ago.
