Description

Easy reading with annotations

A small lost village in the south of Italy in 1978 surrounded by wheat, woods and hills. A group of children who love and hate each other in games. The “adults” come and go: The men are out doing who knows what, the women are at home or at the market. And one day, in this silent and obsessive world where one dreams of seeing the sea or going to the city, something happens that changes all the meanings of life: Michele discovers a secret that is perhaps too hard for him to keep; then, little by little, the protagonists of this secret appear on the scene, and they are the same children and “adults” as in his everyday life.

Niccolò Ammaniti (born September 25, 1966 in Rome) is an Italian writer. He became known in 2001 with the publication of Io non ho paura, a novel that was later made into a film directed by Gabriele Salvatores.
In 2006 he published Come Dio comanda, a novel in which nothing can be taken at face value. A detective novel that is also a grueling dialogue between man and God. A profound look at the Italy of the lower class and the unemployed, where poverty and dreams, nobility and cruelty, humor and sadness are woven into a spectacular concept of life itself.
