The story of this novel begins with a lie: fourteen-year-old Lorenzo is not like the others. He has no friends and feels alienated everywhere.
One day at school, he hears that a group of classmates has decided to organize a “ski vacation” together. Lorenzo comes home and tells his mother that he has been invited to go on a skiing vacation with his classmates. He prepares everything as if he were really going skiing with his friends.
Instead, he hides in the basement of the building, where he has prepared everything so that he can hide there for a week without having to go out. The sudden appearance of an unknown person in the basement will change his life forever.
From the author of Io non ho paura.
Niccolò Ammaniti (born September 25, 1966 in Rome) is an Italian writer. He became known in 2001 with the publication of Io non ho paura, a novel that was later made into a film directed by Gabriele Salvatores.
In 2006 he published Come Dio comanda, a novel in which nothing can be taken at face value. A detective novel that is also a grueling dialogue between man and God. A profound look at the Italy of the lower class and the unemployed, where poverty and dreams, nobility and cruelty, humor and sadness are woven into a spectacular concept of life itself.
