Premio Strega: Italy’s most prestigious literary award
The Premio Strega is Italy’s most prestigious and sought-after literary award.
Are you looking for a fun, innovative and motivating app to learn Italian? We have discovered Saga Baldoria from Gymglish and tested it for you. We have to say, we’re honestly pretty excited about it!
Saga Baldoria is an Italian learning app from Gymglish, where there are also other language courses for German, English, Spanish and French. Gymglish lessons are built on unconventional and entertaining stories and offer a lot of cultural content in addition to language.
We tested the Saga Baldoria Italian course from Gymglish and this is what it looks like:
The app provides you with new lessons on a regular basis. Lessons are short, about 10 minutes a day, 4 days a week. A nice daily portion of "Dolce Vita"! You can also set on which days you want to receive the lessons. You can even "pause" the app when you go on vacation!
The course is about Anna Baldoria, who lives in Milan with her son and has a promising career as a surgeon. However, when her grandmother Betty Baldoria dies and leaves her the Baldoria Hotel, she must return to Rome. Will Anna respect her grandmother's last wish and stay in Rome, or will she return to Milan?
Besides the story, the lessons have everything you need: Grammar, vocabulary, audio files and exercises with instant correction and notes. You can also highlight vocabulary words and save them to your vocabulary list. Vocabulary is tested on a regular basis.
We find the "dolce del giorno", the daily dessert, particularly interesting. These are film and book excerpts, songs or other materials to learn more about the diversity of Italian culture. Really funny!
We find the app quite well designed and suitable for all learners who want to learn Italian in an amusing way and need motivation and regularity.
However, for the course you need some previous knowledge, so for complete beginners we do not find it particularly suitable. Also, the explanations are completely in Italian, so you might need a dictionary for that.
In the first 8 lessons, the level is tested, so some exercises may be easy, but others may still be too difficult. In the last case you should simply click on “Non lo so”. After the placement phase, the lessons are then adapted to your level.
In your personal learning area you can review the previous lessons over and over again, learn and repeat the vocabulary you have chosen, see your learning progress and at the end you will be rewarded and also receive a certificate with the level you have reached!
No, Saga Baldoria is not free of charge. However, you can test the app completely free of charge and without obligation and see if it is something for you. The trial period ends automatically and it does not close a subscription, so do not worry 🙂
The basic package costs from 21€ per month and includes everything we have already listed: 4 lessons per week, placement and certificate, a personal online space, personalized learning content according to level and interests, etc.
If you want even more, there is a premium package starting at 32€ per month: in addition to the basic package, the lessons are adapted to business topics (economics, finance, IT, sales, etc.) and you have premium support for technical questions.
There is also a Pro package for 42€ per month if you want to study really intensively. With the Pro package you get additional pedagogical support, i.e. with each lesson and correction you can ask your questions and comments directly to the Saga Baldoria teaching team in an input window.
Yes, Gymglish’s Saga Baldoria Italian course is actually more expensive than Netflix with this subscription model, but the learning method is convincing and what counts in the end is that the course motivates you and makes you enjoy learning.
In cooperation with Saga Baldoria we offer you the possibility to test the app for free for 15 days. You can register HERE with your email address and try the app without any obligation. Feel free to let us know if you like Saga Baldoria! 🙂
