La commedia “Ti ho sposato per allegria” ci introduce nel piccolo mondo della gente comune: la giovane Giuliana, che è venuta a Roma per diventare attrice, incontra dopo diverse disavventure Pietro, un giovane e ricco avvocato. Questi la sposa per «allegria», come lui dice, e non per «pietà », come invece suggerisce Giuliana. una fortuna per una ragazza povera e senza istruzione sposare un uomo ricco e giovane!
Ma Giuliana non è sicura di esserne contenta. Vorrebbe ribellarsi alle tradizioni della borghesia, ma esse le fanno troppo comodo.
Arriva la madre di Pietro per nulla contenta della scelta del figlio. le sue chiacchiere maliziose ottengono però risultati inaspettati.
Natalia Ginzburg (14 luglio 1916, Palermo-7 ottobre 1991, Roma) è stata un’autrice italiana le cui opere hanno esplorato le relazioni familiari, la politica durante e dopo gli anni del fascismo e la seconda guerra mondiale, e la filosofia. Ha scritto romanzi, racconti e saggi, per i quali ha ricevuto il Premio Strega e il Premio Bagutta. La maggior parte delle sue opere furono anche tradotte in inglese e pubblicate nel Regno Unito e negli Stati Uniti.

Easy reading with annotations
The play “Ti ho sposato per allegria” introduces us to the small world of ordinary people: Young Giuliana, who has come to Rome to become an actress, after some misadventures, meets Pietro, a rich young lawyer. He marries her for ‘joy’, as he says, and not for ‘pity’, as Giuliana suggests. Lucky for a poor, uneducated girl to marry a rich, young man!
But Giuliana is not sure if she is happy about it. She would like to rebel against the traditions of the bourgeoisie, but they are too comfortable for her.
Pietro’s mother arrives, who is not at all happy about her son’s decision.
Natalia Ginzburg (July 14, 1916, Palermo – October 7, 1991, Rome) was an Italian writer whose works dealt with family relationships, politics during and after fascism and World War II, and philosophy. She wrote novels, short stories and essays, for which she received the Strega Prize and the Bagutta Prize. Most of her works have also been translated into English and published in the United Kingdom and the United States.
