Episodio 1

I fenicotteri?

Ahhh how nice. Vacations are the most beautiful time of the year!

It is morning and I am on the beach with my mom and dad. We sunbathe and enjoy the “dolce vita”. Italy is a truly enchanting place.

Luckily, despite this strange virus, we could go on vacation in Cavallino.

But… one moment! Mum and dad collect their things and go back to the campsite. Why don’t we stay on the beach? Ah, maybe we’ll take a trip! But I am not sure. Curious, I follow them up to our trailer.

I wait patiently in my bed and watch them get ready. I see that mom puts in a backpack two bottles of water, a bowl for me and a camera. Ha! I was right, we take a trip. Fantastic!

Mom says that we are cycling in the lagoon because she wants to see the flamingos.

The flamingos? What are they? I am very curious to find it out.

Then I jump in my cart behind Padroncina’s bike and we leave.

Episodio 2

Mi avvicino a lui prudentemente e sento che sta chiedendo aiuto. Poverino!

We go on a nice bike path in Via Fausta, then we turn right towards the lagoon and at a traffic circle we continue straight on. Then we have to go on a bridge. But Padroncina is struggling to get on the bridge with me in the cart. She curses and exclaims: «Rocky, you need to lose weight!»

Pffffff… these are muscles, not fat! I bark a little offended.

In the end, dad must help her to make the ascent…

After the bridge there is a beautiful church, a few restaurants, and another bridge. After a while we cross a courtyard. There there are old people playing cards. It looks private, but it is a public street. In Italy everything is a bit strange, but I like it.

Finally we get to the sea, we stop and get off. To the left and to the right there is the sea. What a wonderful place!

We walk a little bit and mom and dad look for a nice place to sit down. There are many seagulls in the water. I watch them and I would like to chase them, but I know that I cannot. I am a good dog and I obey mom!

I bark and ask mom if I can go around a bit and she leaves me free. Luckily I can walk and I don’t get bored. I take a few steps, turn left and… I see a big pink bird with very long legs!

I approach him cautiously and feel that he is asking for help. Poor thing! One of his legs is stuck in a net.

Episodio 3

Ok, devo stare calmo. Mi serve un’idea per aiutarlo. Intanto gli chiedo come si chiama.

«Mi chiamo Filippo. Sono incastrato! Puoi aiutarmi?» chiede lui preoccupato.
«Io sono Rocky, e sì, ti aiuto. Devi solo rimanere calmo.

Accidenti!

Mi guardo in giro e cerco un’altra soluzione. Poco distante c’è un gabbiano. Rocky, non inseguirlo, NON inseguirlo! ripeto a me stesso.

Avrei fatto meglio a inseguirlo… penso deluso.

Okay, I need to stay calm. I need an idea to help him. Meanwhile I ask him what his name is.

«My name is Filippo. I am stuck! Can you help me?» he asks worried.
«I am Rocky, and yes, I’ll help you. You only have to remain calm. We make it through, don’t worry!» I tell him in a calm voice, but inside I am very agitated.

I look for something nearby to cut the net, and I find a shell. I take it and go back to Filippo. I try to cut the net, but the shell breaks at the first attempt. Damn it!

I look around and look for another solution. Not far away there is a seagull. Rocky, do not chase it, do NOT chase it! I repeat to myself.

I approach him and ask him kindly for help, but he doesn’t know how to help us. I would have done better to chase him… I think disappointed.

I walk away in the water, near the shore, and I stumble upon a large stone. Ouch! That hurt! From underneath the rock a crab comes out, grumbling because I woke it up. I apologize graciously and leave in a hurry. The claws of the crab frighten me a little bit… but all of a sudden I get an idea.

Episodio 4

Filippo è molto sollevato e insieme aspettiamo.

«Grazie mille Rocky!

I go back to the crab, I tell him the problem and ask him if he can help us: with his claws he could cut the net! He answers that he needs a few minutes and then he will come to us to help us. I am very excited and happy and I go back to Filippo with the good news.

Filippo is very relieved and together we are waiting. After a few minutes we finally see the crab. But he is not alone: Many other crabs have come to help us! All together they start to cut the net. They take a while, but in the end they make it and Filippo is free!

He thanks them and jumps very happy here and there.

Finally he embraces me. «Thank you very much Rocky! I don’t know what I would have done without you. We absolutely must meet again! But now I must return to my family, they will surely be very worried!»

And with a strong flutter of wings he flies away.

Episodio 5

Happy, I watch him fly over the lagoon, then I go back to my mom and dad. Mom seems very happy, she has the camera in her hand and a big smile on her face. Before I can tell her about my heroic gesture, she says to me all excited that she saw a flamingo and shows me a picture of a big pink bird flying over the lagoon. But that’s Filippo! I think surprised. So Filippo is a flamingo!

Now I finally know what a flamingo is and I am really proud to have known one. But I wouldn’t want mom to get jealous, so I prefer not to say anything and my adventure remains my little secret…

But maybe I could organize a meeting between Filippo and mom… Who knows?! She would be delighted!

Happy and content, we hit the road back to the campsite.

What an adventure!
