L'Immacolata
L’8 dicembre è il giorno dell’Immacolata Concezione (oppure: la Madonna), un giorno festivo. Si festeggia Maria, che è nata senza peccato, quindi immacolata.
December 8 is Immaculate Conception Day, a public holiday. One celebrates Mary, who was born without sin, that is, immaculate.
L'8 dicembre a Roma
A Roma c’è una bella tradizione: la colonna dell’Immacolata di piazza Mignanelli, accanto a piazza di Spagna, riceve tanti bellissimi fiori!
I primi a donare i fiori alla Madonna sono i vigili del fuoco. Con un’autoscala raggiungono la statua, che si trova in cima a una colonna alta più di 11 metri, e appoggiano1 una ghirlanda di fiori sul suo braccio.
Dopo i vigili del fuoco, anche il Papa rende omaggio2 alla statua della Vergine Maria.

In Rome there is a beautiful tradition: the column of the Immaculate Conception in Piazza Mignanelli, next to the Spanish Steps, receives many beautiful flowers!
The first to present the flowers to Our Lady are the firefighters. With a ladder truck they reach the statue, which stands on a column more than 11 meters high, and put a garland of flowers on its arm.
After the firefighters, the Pope also pays homage to the statue of the Virgin Mary.
