Il personaggio del suo romanzo di maggior successo è il commissario siciliano Montalbano, che ha chiamato come lo scrittore spagnolo Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.

Inspector Montalbano must face a world full of violence, crimes of love and interest, and the mafia, and search for a possible solution, which he does with great intelligence and logic, but also with a lot of humor and humanity.
Andrea Camilleri, born September 6, 1925 in Porto Empedocle, Sicily and died July 17, 2019 in Rome, was an Italian screenwriter, theater and television director and novelist. His most successful novel character is the Sicilian Commissario Montalbano, whom he named after the Spanish writer Manuel Vázquez Montalbán.
The crime novels featuring Commissario Montalbano have been translated into 30 languages and made Camilleri internationally famous. In all, Camilleri wrote more than 100 books and was considered a critical voice in contemporary Italian literature.
