Holy Thursday and Good Friday

La settimana che precede la Pasqua si chiama settimana santa. Particolarmente importanti sono il giovedì e il venerdì santo. Il giovedì santo si ricorda l’ultima cena di Gesù, quando annuncia che uno dei dodici apostoli lo tradirà. Il venerdì santo si ricorda la crocifissione e morte di Gesù. In questo giorno non si mangia carne e si celebra il rito della Via Crucis, in cui si rivive la Passione di Cristo. Non sono però giorni festivi, quindi in Italia si lavora normalmente.

The week before Easter is called Holy Week. Especially important are Holy Thursday and Good Friday. Holy Thursday commemorates Jesus’ last supper, when he announces that one of the twelve apostles will betray him. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus. On this day we do not eat meat and we celebrate the rite of the Via Crucis, in which we relive the Passion of Christ. However, these are not public holidays, so in Italy people work normally.

L'ultima cena (cenacolo)

Il famoso dipinto l’Ultima Cena (o Cenacolo), realizzato tra il 1494 e il 1498, è un capolavoro di Leonardo da Vinci e del Rinascimento italiano. Si trova a Milano, su una parete del refettorio della chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie. «In verità, in verità io vi dico: uno di voi mi tradirà.»

Traduzione

The famous painting the Last Supper, made between 1494 and 1498, is a masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci and the Italian Renaissance. It is located in Milan, on a wall of the refectory of the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, one of you shall betray me.”
