Capitolo 1

«… E scusi ancora per il ritardo!»
«Nessun problema, non si preoccupi. Grazie ancora e arrivederci!»
Pasquale inizia a camminare.

“… Und nochmals Entschuldigung für die Verspätung!”
“Kein Problem, keine Sorge.
Was ist denn passiert?

Translation in English

“… And sorry again for the delay!”
“No problem, no worries. Thanks again and goodbye!”
Pasquale greets the hen, then looks at the eggs he just received. Hundreds of white eggs, small, medium and large, just waiting to be colored. Mrs. Hen, who brings eggs to the Easter Bunny every year, brought them late this year.
Unfortunately all the hens on the farm had the flu, so for a few weeks they had to stay in bed and couldn’t work.
Luckily, they are now recovered and Pasquale finally received the eggs, two days before Easter.
Pasquale is not worried: he is very quick at coloring the eggs and will make it in time. But there’s no time to lose, he has to start now! First of all he has to go and get the colors. He closes his eyes, concentrates and opens a tunnel. He jumps in and in a few seconds he finds himself in the middle of a large forest.
At the factory they had prepared the paints a few weeks ago. To keep them cool, they had taken them to a special warehouse in a northern forest, in a nice, cool, shady area.
Pasquale had helped Mr. Ladybug, the boss of the factory, and all the ladybug workers to bring the paints to the secret warehouse and had marked the route on a piece of paper: take the path that leads to Monte Verde, walk for about 5 minutes to the big oak on the right, leave the path there, walk ten minutes into the woods until you reach some big raspberry bushes. The warehouse is located back there.
Pasquale starts walking. The woods look a little different than last time: there are a lot of branches on the path and even some trees have fallen. He sees the oak tree, turns right and walks some more. He sees the raspberry bushes and there’s the warehouse. But…
“My goodness!” exclaims Pasquale shocked: The roof of the warehouse is gone, some of the windows are broken and even the door has disappeared. What a disaster! But what has happened?
Pasquale rushes in and can’t believe his eyes: there are only pieces of glass and wood in the warehouse.
The colors have disappeared.

Capitolo 2

Bau!
Lei vorrebbe continuare a dormire, è così presto!
Preferirebbe stare a letto a dormire!
Escono e l’aria fredda sveglia Kira completamente.
«Pasquale? State parlando del coniglietto pasquale?» esclama lei, fermandosi.

Was tun sie wohl?
“Was ist geschehen? Erzähle mir alles darüber!” sagt Kira.

Woof! Mom, aren’t you ready yet? barks Cody impatiently.
Kira opens her eyes irritated. Every morning the same story.
Cody is in front of the door again and barks.
“Just a moment Cody. Five more minutes,” replies Mom as she drinks her coffee, still in her pajamas like every morning.
In the morning Cody is always eager to get out. Kira doesn’t understand him. She would like to keep sleeping, it’s so early! She shakes her head and closes her eyes, trying to sleep.
After ten minutes, however, Mom has finished her breakfast, goes to the bathroom and changes. Then she gets collars and leashes. Cody is thrilled, Kira on the other hand doesn’t really want to go for a walk. She’d rather stay in bed and sleep!
They go out and the cold air wakes Kira up completely. It’s almost Easter, but it’s still a little chilly in the morning. They take their usual walk in the park. Kira and Cody run free and play with other dogs. Today Mom brought the ball. Kira really likes to play with the ball! Mom throws it and Kira runs to catch it, then she brings it back to Padroncina and she throws it again.
At one point, Mom throws the ball a little farther. Kira goes to pick it up and notices a ladybug walking quickly on her ball. Then she sees another ladybug, right there in the grass. And then another and another. Now that she looks closely, Kira notices that there are a lot of ladybugs there. There must be hundreds of them!
I wonder what they’re doing?
Kira stops to look at them, but then she hears Mom’ voice calling her. She is about to run away, when she hears a sentence:
“… Mr. Pasquale is really worried…”
“Pasquale? Are you talking about the Easter Bunny?” she exclaims, stopping.
The ladybug who said that sentence looks at her a little scared.
“What happened? Tell me all about it!”

Capitolo 3

Cody!»
«Pasquale! Abbiamo sentito quello che è successo…»
«Un vero disastro» dice lui
«E ora come farai senza colori?»
«Ti aiutiamo noi a cercarli» dice Kira decisa.
«Siamo a nord, in montagna.
Così escono e iniziano a camminare. Cody e Kira annusano concentrati dappertutto, finché…
«Sento odore di colore! È proprio qui vicino» esclama felice e inizia a correre.
«Ahi!»
È andata contro qualcosa. Come al solito.
Alza la testa e vede… un orso.
«Ahh aiuto! Aiuto» abbaia terrorizzata

“Komm schon, lass uns gehen!”
Cody!”
“Pasquale!

Translation in English

Kira and Cody run to their friend Leo’s farm and meanwhile Kira thinks about the ladybug’s words: The colors to paint the Easter eggs have disappeared. Pasquale is very worried. How will Pasquale paint the eggs?
After the walk, Mom went to work and Kira and Cody went out. Mom doesn’t know it, but Kira and Cody can open the front door….
A few years ago, Cody had found one of Pasquale’s secret tunnels that he had forgotten to close. Then Pasquale had decided to leave it open, so Kira and Cody could visit him whenever they wanted. It was located in the woods behind their friend Leo’s farm.
Kira and Cody arrive at the farm and immediately run into the woods.
“There he is!” exclaims Cody after a while. Hidden behind a bush is a small tunnel, like a hole in the ground.
“Come on, let’s go!”
Cody jumps right in, followed by Kira, who is struggling a bit to get in….
Uh oh, maybe I’ve gained a little weight, thinks Kira worried. But luckily after a few seconds she finds herself on the other side of the tunnel.
Pasquale is in front of her house and pacing back and forth. He looks very worried. When he sees them, he exclaims in amazement, “Kira! Cody!”
“Pasquale! We heard what happened…”
“A real disaster,” he says.
“And now how are you going to do without colors?”
“I don’t know! Ladybugs don’t have time to make more… I’ve already tried to look for the colors, but I can’t find them”
“We’ll help you look for them” says Kira determinedly.
“Of course we’ll help you! Take us to where they disappeared” says Cody.
Pasquale seems a little more optimistic again, he opens a tunnel and takes them into the woods, where there
is the warehouse.
“Yikes!” exclaims Kira when she sees the warehouse.
“But what happened?” asks Cody.
“I don’t know,” replies Pasquale. “I found it like this yesterday.”
“But where are we? It’s cold here” says Cody.
“We are up north in the mountains. The cold is good for keeping the colors fresh” Pasquale explains, then brings them inside.
Kira and Cody sniff around to try to figure out if it was a wild animal – maybe a bear?
But there are no particular smells in the warehouse. The smell of the colors, however, is very strong.
“We go out and take a walk in the woods. Maybe we can smell the missing colors,” says Kira.
So they get out and start walking. Cody and Kira sniff concentrically everywhere, until…
“I smell color! It’s right nearby” she exclaims happily and start running. She follows the trail, the smell gets closer and closer, it’s right here, behind this tree….
“Ow!”
She ran into something. As usual.
She look up and see… a bear.
“Ahh help! Help!” She bark in terror.
Above her, the bear’s eyes stare at her.

Capitolo 4

«Oh scusami, non ti avevo visto. Stai bene?» chiede l’orso preoccupato.
«Ah! Lascia stare.
«A me piace essere colorato» dice l’orso.

“Starker Wind?”, fragt Pasquale.

“Oh sorry, I didn’t see you there. Are you okay?” asks the bear worried. Kira looks at him open-mouthed. He is neither a brown bear nor a white bear. He is a rainbow bear.
“Y-Yes, thank you, I’m fine,” she replies a little intimidated.
At that moment Cody and Pasquale arrive and Kira notices that there is another animal with the bear. It’s a squirrel, also colorful.
Pasquale stares at them for a moment without words, then exclaims: “Those colors! From where… how…?”
He doesn’t quite know what to ask.
“Ah! Never mind. A real disaster, we’ve already washed three times at the river, but they don’t go away anymore” says the squirrel a little angry.
“I like to be colorful” says the bear.
The squirrel shakes his head. “But it’s not like we can stay like this forever. We look ridiculous!”
“But where did you find those colors?” asks Pasquale agitated.
The bear raises his arm and points up. “They fell from the sky.”
“Yes, two weeks ago, when we had that strong wind.”
“Strong wind?”
“Yes of course, that strong wind, a real blizzard! It made many disasters… Don’t you remember?” asks the squirrel looking at us puzzled.
“We’re not from here” says Cody.
“And do you know where the colors are now?” asks Pasquale, even more agitated.
“Sure, they’re all in the rainbow clearing. That’s what it’s called now.”
“And where is that?”
“Near here. We’ll take you there if you want.”
“Yes yes, please!”
And so they set off, and a little later they come to a large clearing.

Capitolo 5

Translation in English

“Wow, how wonderful!”
Like the squirrel and the bear, the clearing is also all colorful.
It’s a very large clearing and all the trees are colored a thousand colors, the grass forms a beautiful rainbow and the pond glows yellow, pink and green. Kira turns happily towards Pasquale, but… he is not happy at all, on the contrary. He slowly walks over to some large empty buckets sitting in the corner.
“There’s nothing left to do, Easter is ruined!” he exclaims sadly.
“What’s wrong?” the bear asks Kira in a low voice, pointing at Easter, and she explains what happened.
“Poor guy, I’m so sorry,” she finally says. “Without colors, it’s really hard to paint eggs…”
The squirrel has also heard the story and looks at the colors on his paws. “They are really good quality colors and very durable, no doubt about it.”
“I often get dirty while eating, but after a while the color goes away,” says the bear.
“I’ve gotten dirty with food too,” says Kira showing red spots on her paw and chest.
“Mom made the gravy. I was very curious and wanted to try it, but the bottle fell and I got all dirty.”
“Mom wasn’t happy at all,” adds Cody.
“No, not at all” says Kira looking at her paw still red from the gravy.
And then she has an idea.
“Pasquale!” she calls him agitatedly.
He looks at her with sad eyes.
“Look! It’s tomato sauce!” She tells him, showing him her paw and chest.
“Tomato sauce…?” he repeats slowly, then his face lights up. “Tomato sauce! Of course!”
Now Pasquale jumps up and down all agitated and talks to himself. “Sure, the colors aren’t as bright, but at least the eggs aren’t white… Even the smell will be different, but better than nothing…”
He finally stops and looks at them all. “Okay, I have a plan.”
After half an hour they were all ready to save Easter.

Epilogo

Padroncinaaa, sveglia!
Meno male!

Buona Pasqua a tutti!

Frohe Ostern euch allen!

Mooom, wake up!
Every morning the same story, Kira thinks as she turns the other way.
But then she remembers that morning is a special morning. It’s Easter! She jumps up and barks too. Wake up! Wake up!
Mom mumbles something and gets up, then opens the door and they all go out into the garden. Kira immediately starts looking for the eggs. I wonder where Pasquale hid them?
This year it’s very easy to find the eggs, they smell really special. Here’s one in the pot. The egg is orange and smells like carrots. He finds another one under the chair. Yellow. Honey. Two more eggs are in the garden. Green: Pesto. One egg is found among the roses. Blue: Blueberries. And here are two red ones by the mailbox. Tomato Sauce.
The colors aren’t as pretty as usual, but better than nothing.
They had each gone to get a food that could color the eggs, and the two new friends, named Bruno and Scotty, had helped them too. Kira and Cody had gotten gravy and pesto from Padroncina’s pantry (she always keeps plenty!), Bruno and Scotty had brought blueberries and honey, and Pasquale had brought carrots. In the end they had managed to color all the eggs in time.
And once again, Easter was safe this year. Thank goodness!
Happy Easter to everyone!

Buona Pasqua!
